Fantastic Friday!

June 28, 2013

Today wrapped up the third week of JMB Camp!  We started the day learning all about Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s rehab of turtles with our Rescue to Release presentation.  After this, everybody went to the beach for some swimming and building in the sand!  A few campers even competed in trying to dig the deepest hole.  While at the beach, we played the Disoriented Hatchling game, where campers had to run from one line to another without being eaten!

After grabbing some lunch out on the deck, everybody got ready for a hospital tour and turtle rehab activity!  Each group of campers was able to see just what the LMC staff does to get turtles back to their full health.  They even took measurements and diagnosed their own turtle models in a fun and educational lab!Image

To end the day, both groups of campers made Gyotaku fish prints, and an arribada collage!  Gyotaku is a japanese art that involves painting fish and using them like stamps on a canvas.  The arribada collage was a huge picture of a beach decorated with lots of turtles drawn by the campers! To test both groups’ knowledge of marine biology, everybody participated in a fun game of Jeopardy! Group 2 ended up winning the game, and everybody ate some delicious popsicles to celebrate a fun week!  All of the counselors and CITs wish everybody a safe and fun Summer!
