Turtle-riffic Wednesday!

August 3, 2016

Today was a very educational day with a specific focus on sea turtles! The loggerheads and the leatherbacks teamed up to learn about the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s main function as a sea turtle rehabilitation hospital. We started the morning off with a fun time at the beach. Although it was overcast again, everyone had a blast! Campers had the opportunity to meet face to face with some neat beach critters! ┬áMr. Anthony found some interesting specimens in the sargassum and Ms. Madison found an awesome sand flea.

After drying off and eating lunch, Ms. Jackie gave a very informative presentation on the steps of sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation. Then, the campers had the opportunity to actually take a tour of the sea turtle hospital and see some patients who were in treatment!

The greens had an exciting day on their field trip to Jonathan Dickinson State park! They toured their exhibit hall with holds a lot of information on our local ecosystem in South Florida. Then, the campers had a blast canoeing with Mr. Max! Their tour of the Loxahatchee River was very fun and also allowed the campers to see first hand the ecosystem which they were learning about.20160803_13244120160803_14081120160803_141006
